Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting, Fine Art Oil Painting “Dormant Trees” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

These dormant trees provided a perfect foundation to experiment with negative space painting. After roughing in the branches with a dark color and broader than needed strokes, I begin painting the negative spaces, which is the space between the branches. To create an edgier look, I deliberately did not create continuity in the background.
