Faux Batik Painting, "Autumn Glow" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

"Autumn Glow," faux batik painting by Carol Nelson

This painting was a demo for a faux batik class I taught recently.
If you look carefully, you can see random lines in green, ochre, and turquoise that result from the batik process.

In this example, the painting is done on fabric, the processed with wax, paint, and polymer medium for a unique look. I love the unpredictability of this process.

Mixed Media Abstract Painting, "Sunken Treasure" © Carol Nelson Fine Art

"Sunken Treasure", 30x24 mixed media by Carol Nelson

This painting has some interesting things added to it. The "treasure" is bits of gold colored metal from a necklace, and gold painted wood pieces. Considering the watery appearance of the rest of the painting, it wasn't hard to come up with a title.

I tried something different for the finish on this painting. It has Golden's Self Leveling Clear Gel in a relatively thick layer. I poured it on and spread it around with a brush. The gel "produces a smooth, even, flexible, glossy film of excellent clarity with water and UV resistance." It is very shiny, and certainly easier to work with than smelly varnish.

Mixed Media Abstracted Trees Collage, "Sunny Day 2" by Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson Fine Art

Sunny Day 2 by Carol Nelson

This mixed media collage painting is mounted on a second board for a floating presentation. There are several collage elements including unryu rice paper, prepared tyvek, and buckshot paper gathered at a shooting range. What is buckshot paper, you ask? When paper targets are shot with a shot gun, the target then is full of holes. This is primo stuff for mixed media!! I risk my life gathering this precious refuse. (lol)

Carol Nelson Painting To Hang in the Ambassador to Nepal's Home!!

When the State Department (as in Federal Government) calls, you pay attention!!

The director of Art in Embassies wanted some examples of my Colorado landscapes (I USED to do realism).

The ambassador to Nepal chose this one for her residence in Kathmandu! It's on loan for two years.
To me, it's just exciting to think that my painting is hanging in the ambassador's residence half way around the world.
