West of here ( now where is that???) I was able to spend time with a friend and yes we had a great time making memories. This scene was interesting to me and I was hoping to show a winding passage plus include some interesting vegetation that isn't seen in my Houston neighborhood. Abstract Landscape Painting, Mixed Media, Trees, Fine Art For Sale, “Rebirth” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

 

This painting, "Rebirth", was inspired by a scene in an area near me that was in the process of change. I choose to look for the positive in most areas and so this painting was created to reflect the bloom of fresh colors overpowering the old and gray. The sense of a new beginning that was fresh with promise was the feeling I was hoping to portray. Isn't the idea that we can start fresh with a "clean slate" a great idea?

Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting ,Mixed Media, Fine Art For Sale, “I am Your Strength” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

 

The title of this painting, “I Am Your Strength”, jumped off the pages of my prayer journal. For me, I know my strength is not from me but from my Creator and so when I saw this group of trees with the light blindly piercing through I was inspired to paint what represented the strength of God in my life. The curve of the trees represents the paths we take and yet they still stand and are able to support life. I love looking at trees and wondering about their journey through multiple hardships and am in awe that even the trees are supported by the same Creator that holds me up in all kinds of weather. I think this painting just keeps surprising me and I see more and more in it that I didn’t even realize I painted. The place and time that inspired this painting is very dear to me and life changing. So much to think about...!

Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting,Mixed Media, Trees, Fine Art For Sale, “The Road is Still On The Map” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

 

My close friends and family know that I “dislike” driving but always enjoy being the passenger. ( Too many drivers have used my car as their braking system!) As a passenger I’m able to take photos and have a chance to be inspired by the view without driving off the road! This painting, “The Road Is Still On The Map” was woven together from several scenes as my friend and I were exploring and I was trying to give directions from our paper map and our GPS / Google devices on a recent trip.

 We were often pleasantly surprised that the road we were on was on the map. In painting this I used many of the colors that actually existed but as always I exaggerated some to draw attention to the trees that otherwise are only glanced at... you know, just more green trees! So in naming this painting I was referring to the road we were on but also thought a bit more about life in general.... perhaps the road to happiness and light is still on the map, yes, even today it is able to be found! Enjoy your day and don’t stop “seeing” where you are going!

Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting, Cows Grazing, Fine Art For Sale, “AS IT SHOULD BE” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

This photo does not nearly express the intent of this painting so I will try to use words instead. I viewed these cows quietly grazing far off from the road and just stopped to imagine a few things. What if we could all just calmly go about our day being the best human possible without complaint, just partaking in what was in our surroundings and being at peace with what we had. I believe that might change a few things for the better and so stopping to look at this scene might give us a glimpse of what some might label "As It Should Be" . I tried to use a design and colors that would express a calm, a sense of peace, even if they were a bit exaggerated as I tend to do. My hope is that you pause for a moment to use your imagination and even enjoy the painting! Thanks for reading!

Birds, Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting, Mixed Media, Trees, Fine Art For Sale, “After the Storm” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

I love exaggerating the colors of the objects I paint but in this painting I tried to calm them down. I wanted to express the feeling of rest after going through a “storm”. The inspiration for this was an area in Houston that had been under water. As the water was receding and the clouds clearing the birds found food and in the stillness a beautiful glow of warm light blanketed the area. The light transformed the darkness and revealed the softened harmony of the landscape that was still standing after the crisis. The area was changed but I loved looking at the surviving trees and reflecting on how we weather storms and gather strength as the Light covers us and leads us through. Take a moment to look around and be inspired!

I took off one afternoon to explore a small town here in Texas near my home in Houston. It was refreshing to see the older buildings and to imagine their history and all the stories they hold. I think it's important to not forget some of our history and maybe even slow down some... I'm used to living in Houston but it was refreshing to walk around and take my time without being rushed. Hard to believe but the inspiration for this painting was a view of an area that was dry, with dead leaves and very few patches of green. I decided to paint this as I imagined it could be, filled with color and exaggerated brushstrokes on a vibrant red background. Yes, now this tells the story of what it could be or even what the area’s true identity really is.... Sometimes what our eyes perceive is not the whole truth, maybe there is more? Enjoy your day and practice looking a bit longer at your surroundings and maybe more will be revealed!
