I have brought together some of my favorite experiments into a loose collage. The earth tones, graphic elements, and spiral shapes create a grounding and calming piece. The white wanderings keep the eye moving and add a note of whimsy to the unframed unique collage painting.

This scene was interesting to me and I was hoping to show a winding passage plus include some interesting vegetation that isn't seen in my Houston neighborhood. Hard to believe but the inspiration for this painting was a view of an area that was dry, with dead leaves and very few patches of green. I decided to paint this as I imagined it could be, filled with color and exaggerated brushstrokes on a vibrant red background. Yes, now this tells the story of what it could be or even what the area’s true identity really is.... Sometimes what our eyes perceive is not the whole truth, maybe there is more? Enjoy your day and practice looking a bit longer at your surroundings and maybe more will be revealed!

Why are we so fascinated with water? We go to the beach and spend hours watching the waves. We find a pond and stare at the plants growing and look for life amongst them. This painting was inspired by a visit to an area near my home that I love to visit, an arboretum here in Houston, a gem hidden away in the middle of the city. It had been a hectic few days and just standing there and staring at the pond water was what I needed to relax. Yes, this was indeed “ Living Water”and the longer I stared at it my mind went to several references in The Bible that spoke of living water relating to a knowledge of God, a relationship with Him and the everlasting life that is available through Jesus. I tried to capture some of what I felt that day with paint and have it to share with you! Thank you for taking the time to read this and look at my painting!

Sometimes I wonder if anyone thinks the colors I use in a painting are what my eyes see when viewing my inspiration. The answer is no. I just love to exaggerate and explore relationships between color families to tell the story of the moment. This painting illustrates a routine of gathering together and heading home. My goal was to push the colors in such a way that you might pause a moment to linger as you stared at the painting and then maybe go so far as to define for yourself what "Second Gathering" means to you. Many layers of texture and color weave together the multiple layers of meaning.

This painting, "Rebirth", was inspired by a scene in an area near me that was in the process of change. I choose to look for the positive in most areas and so this painting was created to reflect the bloom of fresh colors overpowering the old and gray. The sense of a new beginning that was fresh with promise was the feeling I was hoping to portray. Isn't the idea that we can start fresh with a "clean slate" a great idea?

Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting ,Mixed Media, Fine Art For Sale, “I am Your Strength” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

 

The title of this painting, “I Am Your Strength”, jumped off the pages of my prayer journal. For me, I know my strength is not from me but from my Creator and so when I saw this group of trees with the light blindly piercing through I was inspired to paint what represented the strength of God in my life. The curve of the trees represents the paths we take and yet they still stand and are able to support life. I love looking at trees and wondering about their journey through multiple hardships and am in awe that even the trees are supported by the same Creator that holds me up in all kinds of weather. I think this painting just keeps surprising me and I see more and more in it that I didn’t even realize I painted. The place and time that inspired this painting is very dear to me and life changing. So much to think about...!
